Archer proudly congratulates The Honorable Marie E. Lihotz, Of Counsel in the firm’s Family Law Group, on receiving the prestigious 2022 Haines Award given by the Burlington County Bar Association (BCBA). The Haines Award is the highest honor of the Burlington County Bar Association. Judge Lihotz, P.J.A.D. (Ret.) accepted the Haines Award at a reception in her honor on Thursday, March 31 at Il Portico in Burlington, NJ.
Created in 2007 in honor of Judge Martin L. Haines, the Haines Award was established to recognize those who best exemplify and display the qualities of Judge Haines: personal and professional integrity, devotion to the legal profession and legal scholarship, and dedication to the justice system and the people of Burlington County.
Judge Lihotz is serving her second term as a Trustee of the Burlington County Bar Association. She also serves the BCBA as Co-Chair of the Professionalism Committee and a member of the Diversity Leadership and Family Law Committees.
Judge Lihotz joined Archer as Of Counsel after serving twenty years as a member of the New Jersey Judiciary, including more than eleven years in the Appellate Division. Judge Lihotz concentrates her practice in resolving legal disputes through mediation and arbitration, including family, business, estate, employment as well as appellate arbitration matters. She is a member of the American Arbitration Association Commercial and Employment Roster of Arbitrators, an approved Rule 4:21A arbitrator and Rule 1:40 civil mediator. Further, Judge Lihotz consults on trial and appellate presentations.
Judge Lihotz is past president and a founding member of the Thomas S. Forkin Family Law American Inn of Court. During her term as president, the Inn was first recognized by the National AIC in the Circle of Excellence and later achieving the Platinum Level of excellence in the requisite core competencies.
As an attorney and a judge, Judge Lihotz has always participated in legal education. In addition to lecturing for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE), various bar associations, the Administrative Office of the Courts, and the Judiciary, she participated as an adjunct lecturer for Rutgers University Law School, Camden. In 2019, Judge Lihotz received the prestigious Distinguished Service Award from the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education recognizing her exceptional contributions to continuing legal education, NJICLE and its educational mission. Judge Lihotz was also the recipient of the 2019 Serpentelli Award presented by the Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, given to her in recognition of lifelong and extraordinary contributions to the development of family law in the state of New Jersey.
Judge Lihotz earned her J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and an L.L.M. (taxation) from New York University School of Law. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware.
