Shelley Smith Receives EWNJ’s Salute to the Policy Makers Award

Archer attorney Shelley R. Smith was honored by the Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) as a recipient of the Salute to the Policy Makers Award. Shelley accepted her award at the EWNJ’s gala dinner on May 3rd at the Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, New Jersey. Shelley was recognized for her trailblazing professional achievements and her efforts towards advancing women’s leadership.

Shelley was celebrated alongside other groundbreaking leaders from the private and public sectors at this year’s gala for what their presence represents for women in the workplace, and the importance of showcasing the impact of women’s leadership.

Shelley’s leadership within Archer, the legal profession, and the community at large sets the standard for community involvement and professional excellence. In addition to her legal practice, Shelley is the firm’s Chief of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In that role, Shelley is instrumental in long-range DEI planning and implementation to cultivate a workplace where everyone feels valued and included. Shelley works closely with Archer’s senior leadership to focus on recruitment and retention, mentoring, professional development and advancement, education, client partnerships and community outreach.

Shelley is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation and Labor and Employment Groups, where she counsels clients in commercial litigation and labor and employment matters. Shelley joined Archer following a distinguished career in public service for the City of Philadelphia, spending over two decades in the Law Department that culminated in eight years as City Solicitor during Michael Nutter’s mayoral tenure.

Shelley serves as a Board Member for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Women’s Law Project, as well as a member of the Board of Managers of Moore College of Art and Design. Shelley was recently named as one of Savoy Magazine’s 2022 “Most Influential Black Lawyers,” which identifies lawyers who are exemplary leaders and advocates, and who have demonstrated exceptional achievement, expertise, and community outreach. Last year, Shelley was named to ROI-NJ Influencers: People of Color 2021 — Difference Makers List.
