Archer partner Shelley R. Smith has been named a 2022 Distinguished Advocate for Children honoree by the Support Center for Child Advocates for her efforts to further the organization’s mission. The Support Center for Child Advocates supports victims of child abuse and neglect with the goal of securing safety, justice, well-being, and a permanent, nurturing environment for every child.
Shelley is being recognized for her significant pro bono contributions to the organization. She has partnered with the organization for the past 5 years to provide legal representation and advocacy on behalf of neglected and abused children in the city of Philadelphia. In the years Shelley has served as a volunteer attorney, she represented nine children in dependency proceedings. As a volunteer, Shelley is known to build great rapport with the children, their caregivers, and the other professionals on her cases. Shelley is also a past member of the Center’s Board of Directors.
Shelley is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation and Labor and Employment Groups. She also serves as Archer’s Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. In her practice, Shelley counsels clients in commercial litigation and labor and employment matters. Shelley litigates a wide variety of cases before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. She has handled cases involving discrimination and harassment allegations, including Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
Shelley will be recognized by the Support Center for Child Advocates during a virtual award ceremony on Wednesday, April 20.
