Robert W. Bucknam Jr., a Partner with Archer, P.C., law firm, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity Atlantic County, a non-profit organization working to provide decent, affordable housing to families.
Bucknam, of Hammonton in Atlantic County, N.J., began his Board term last month. A Partner in Archer’s Haddonfield, N.J., office, Bucknam plans to use his experience in land use and real estate law to provide legal support for Habitat for Humanity Atlantic County and to keep the organization up-to-date on legal and regulatory issues in order to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of its homebuilding efforts.
Habitat for Humanity Atlantic County is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit housing organization which works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are then sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor – “sweat equity” – into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
The Atlantic County organization has built dozens of houses for families who qualify for a Habitat home based on need, ability to pay the mortgage and willingness to partner with the organization.
Bucknam is Chair of Archer’s Land Use, Environmental Permitting and Regulatory Compliance Group. His legal practice is concentrated in the area of land use planning, zoning, environmental law, administrative agency permitting and regulatory compliance at all governmental levels, real estate transactions and financing, and related litigation.
