Legal Services

Education

The Education Law Group provides full service representation to boards of education and school administrations in all areas of education law, including general board representation, the Public Schools Contracts Law, labor relations, negotiations, special education, construction and financing. Often drawing upon the experience of attorneys in other departments and groups within the Firm, the Group provides everyday counseling and services to administrators on matters relating to student discipline, staff issues, public bidding questions, classification/placement issues in the special education area, insurance issues and environmental issues. Attorneys also negotiate the acquisition of real estate, buildings, computers and other high technology systems, and furnish litigation services.

The Group recognizes the urgency of many of the matters facing boards and administrators, and the need to provide immediate legal advice whenever possible.

Experience

  • Defending special education disputes involving parents who sought in-district placements, where the district sought an out-of-district placement for an educationally handicapped child resulting in the enforcement of the district’s requested out-of-district placement.
  • Defending school districts against appeals of residency and disciplinary disputes.
  • Defending a local university against a student-on-student sexual harassment claim.
