By official Order of Chief Justice Stuart Rabner, Archer Partner John C. Connell was recently appointed to the New Jersey Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Public Access to Court Records for its 2020-2021 term, effective January 1, 2020. With his appointment, Mr. Connell will serve with both Judiciary and external members to address issues that affect court policy and procedure and that shape the practice of law in New Jersey, as well as contribute to the advancement of the Judiciary’s goals.
Among the Advisory Committee’s ongoing work is the Court’s request that the Committee provide advice and guidance to the Supreme Court and the Administrative Director regarding the implementation of Rule 1:38, as well as to analyze specific inquiries and general issues related to public access with the goal of reconciling the Judiciary’s policy in favor of transparency with the need to prevent unintended access to court and administrative records that should not be open to the public.
Mr. Connell practices civil litigation as first-chair trial and appellate attorney in jury and bench trials and appeals in State and federal courts. Mr. Connell’s clients range from Fortune 100 companies to individuals in an array of complex commercial, employment, civil rights, communications law, health care, and intellectual property matters. Mr. Connell’s work has resulted in precedential reported opinions on issues of constitutional jurisprudence, as well as statutory and common law.
