Archer Partner, Debra S. Rosen, has been named as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ, New Jersey’s premiere business news publication. The annual event, one of NJBIZ’s most popular, recognizes leading women shaping their organizations, industries and the economic landscape of the Garden State. Following an open nomination process, winners were chosen by a panel of independent judges based upon their professional success, community involvement and advocacy for women. They will be recognized during an awards reception and ceremony on Monday, March 25th at The Palace in Somerset, NJ.
Debra has had a distinguished 33-year career at Archer where she focuses on complex environmental and toxic tort litigation, as well as environmental due diligence and regulatory compliance issues. Debra’s passion for the law and dedication to her clients has been evident through her successes handling complex and technical environmental litigation matters for some of the country’s largest companies. In talking with Debra, it is clear that one of the aspects of being an attorney she relishes the most is the satisfaction and reward that comes from the substantive work itself. She enjoys being an advocate for her clients.
Debra has played an integral role within Archer providing critical support for many of the firm’s initiatives. Debra broke a glass ceiling within the firm when in 1994 she was made the first woman equity Shareholder. It was only nine years earlier that she was a Summer Associate at Archer. She has served as an inspiration to all of Archer’s attorneys, most importantly the firm’s female attorneys. Debra has broken ground at Archer in other ways as well. She was the first woman chairperson of the firm’s Hiring Committee and was a member of that committee for over 20 years. Additionally, she was the first woman chairperson of the firm’s Personnel Committee, on which she still serves as Co-Chair. She also sits on the firm’s Diversity Committee, a role she has held since that committee was formed. In what has been one of her most gratifying roles at the firm, Debra founded Archer’s Women Lawyer’s Network, which has done a great deal to help put the firm’s diversity initiatives in place.
Debra has worked hard to attain her leadership positions, and it is through her many years of hard work providing experiences that went well beyond the practicing of environmental law. She has always known what was possible for her to achieve and still pushed further and worked harder to move to the next level. In all of her endeavors, whether within Archer, or through her community service, or involvement with professional organizations, Debra has brought about change for many people, and in doing so has provided others, especially female and diverse attorneys, with greater opportunities to develop their careers just as she developed her own career.
