Carlton L. Johnson, a Partner with Archer P.C. in Philadelphia, hosted a small business roundtable at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on Oct. 15, when small businesses from a variety of industries participated in an introductory meeting at the Energy Efficiency Building Hub (EEB Hub).
The EEB Hub was established by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as an Energy-Regional Innovation Cluster (E-RIC) with a dual mission of improving energy efficiency in buildings and promoting regional economic growth and job creation. The EEB Hub includes 11 academic institutions, two DOE laboratories, six high-profile global industry partners and regional economic development agencies.
Geared towards helping the EEB Hub reach workforce development and product utilization goals, the roundtable also featured speakers from the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation and Honeywell Corporation.
Participants from the manufacturing, energy efficiency, facilities management and environmental consulting industries learned about the emerging $103 billion energy efficiency market and how small businesses can partner with the EEB Hub for opportunities. Participant Bernadine Hawes, Chair of the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Council, commented, “The meeting showed that there is the real opportunity to participate in one of this region’s major economic development initiatives.”
As follow up, the EEB Hub staff will be inviting these businesses to become stakeholders and provide feedback on how they can be more accessible partners.
