In the NJ.com article, “Time to Disband N.J. Commission Regulating Weed,” one NJ Senator expressed his feeling that the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission is “extremely ineffective” and “lacks transparency.” Saying there needs to be more accountability, he intends to draft legislation to place the responsibilities of regulating the cannabis market in the state inside a cabinet-level state department, such as Treasury or Health. The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission establishes and enforces the rules and regulations governing the licensing, cultivation, testing, selling, and purchasing of cannabis in the state.
NJ.com reporters Susan Livio and Jelani Gibson reached out to Archer attorney Bill Caruso for his thoughts and write, Bill Caruso, an attorney with Archer Law and general counsel for the New Jersey CannaBusiness Association, called the idea “a huge mistake and a giant step backwards.” Caruso said, “We are far ahead of our neighbors in New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware. I don’t see any reason why we would want to destroy that progress.”
