SUSAN S. HODGES concentrates her practice in providing counsel to both public and private schools relative to special education litigation, residency and truancy disputes, public contracting, search and seizure concerns and pupil records issues. She also has experience handling administrative hearings before state and federal agencies on behalf of school districts.

In addition to her school law practice, Susan is also involved in labor and employment matters including wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, family medical leave act and restrictive covenants.

As part of her litigation practice, Ms. Hodges also counsels and represents carriers in insurance coverage disputes involving school-related issues under commercial general liability policies and errors & omissions policies.

Examples of litigation matters Susan has handled include:

• defending special education disputes involving parents who sought in-district placements, where the district sought an out-of-district placement for an educationally handicapped child resulting in the enforcement of the district's requested out-of-district placement;
• defending school districts against appeals of residency and disciplinary disputes; 
• defending a local university against a student-on-student sexual harassment claim.
